Ice, Match And Salt Experiment
In science, we did another cool experiment. The name of the experiment is called the ice experiment because we used ice and a match. Science is always fun because of the experiments.
What Happened?
What happens is the ice and the salt together makes the ice dissolve.
If you put salt, a little stick and ice together you put a little bit of salt on the match and the match should stick to the ice and the ice should come up with the matchstick. Also, some groups were trying to make it but they took almost 20 minutes. Our group was the first one to do the experiment I think we followed the instructions. If you don't follow the instructions it will not work.

- A bowl of cold water
- A matchstick
- An ice cube
- Table salt
Instructions:
- Place the ice cube carefully in the bowl of cold water
- Gently place the match lengthwise on top of the ice and try to lift the ice cube
- Put the matchstick back on the ice and sprinkle a little salt along the line where it touches the ice cube
- Wait for 30 seconds and then attempt to pick up the ice cube again
Why do we sprinkle salt on icy roads? Because the salt makes the ice melt faster to lower the freezing.

Making A Paperclip Float In Science
So today we did a bit of scientific stuff in science because we had to try and make a Paperclip float on water so what you have to do is to put water into a beaker a small beaker but then you see if it can float without a tissue but it didn't so we put a tissue in it and let the tissue desolve into the water and put the Paperclip on top of the tissue and and then wait for about 10 seconds and after that 10 seconds push the tissue down to the bottom of the beaker Paperclip should float

Blobs in a Bottle
Resources:
• A clean 1 litre clear soft drink bottle
• 3/4 cup of water
• Vegetable oil
• Antacid tablets (such as Quick-Eze or Mylanta)
• Food colouring
Procedure:
- Pour the water into the bottle.
- Use a measuring cup to slowly pour the vegetable oil into the bottle until it’s almost full. You may have to wait a few minutes for the oil and water to separate.
- Add 10 drops of food colouring to the bottle; the drops will pass through the oil and then mix with the water below.
- Break an antacid tablet in half and drop it into the bottle. Watch it sink to the bottom and watch the lava start to flow.
- To keep the effect going, just add another piece of antacid tablet.

- Does the temperature of the water affect the reaction?
- Does the effect still work if the cap is put on the bottle?
- Does the size of the tablet pieces affect the number of blobs created?
- What is an oil spill and how do they happen?
- How do ice and water interact during an oil spill?
- How does oil affect marine life during an oil spill?
Scientific Explanation (How it works):
To begin, the oil stays above the water because the oil is lighter than the water or, more specifically, less dense than water. The oil and water do not mix because of something called “intermolecular polarity.” Molecular polarity basically means that water molecules are attracted to other water molecules. They get along fine, and can loosely bond together (drops.) This is similar to magnets that are attracted to each other. Oil molecules are attracted to other oil molecules. When you added the tablet piece, it sank to the bottom and started dissolving and creating a gas. As the gas bubbles rose, they took some of the coloured water with them. When the blob of water reached the top, the gas escaped and down went the water

This Is Me
Hi There my name is Levi and I am half Maori and Half NZ European and I am 12 years old and I am a Year 7, I also have one sister and I have attended at Hornby High School with my sister and my friends.
And this year 7 I met a new teacher called Miss Allan and she is a pretty good teacher she teaches us cool things and things that we have to do in life later on when we are older. So she teaches us stuff like to keep our environment safe and respect the things at our school like the new school that they have recently built.
So about me I like to play Rugby League,Basketball,Cricket and I like to watch people drift and do cool stunts in cars or on motorcycles but it i kinda funny when they fall off.
