Making Salt

Aim

~

To produce copper sulfate salt by reacting copper oxide with an acid.

Equipment

Copper oxide powder, dilute (0.5 mol L - 1) Sulfuric acid, 50 mL measuring cylinder, two 100 mL beakers, Bunsen burner, tripod, gauze mat, funnel, filter paper, thermometer, spatula, evaporating basin, stirring rod.

Method

~

1. Add 20 mL of sulfuric acid to a 100 mL beaker. Heat the acid until it reaches 70*C. Turn off your Bunsen burner.

2. Once heated, use a spatula to add pea-sized portions of copper oxide to the beaker. Stir the mixture for 30 seconds.

3. Repeat step 2 until no more will dissolve. Allow the beaker to cool.

4. Fold the filter paper and place it in the funnel. Place the filter funnel into the second beaker.

5. Make sure the beaker is cool enough to hold at the top. The contents should still be hot. You may need your teacher to complete this step.

6. Gently swirl the contents of the beaker to mix, and then pour into the filter paper in the funnel. Allow to filter through.

7. Rinse the beaker you used to heat the mixture previously, and place it back on top of your tripod filled with 50-60 mL of water.

8. Place the evaporating basin on top of the beaker and carefully pour some of the solution from the beaker into the evaporating basin.

9. Gently heat the beaker until the solution in the evaporating basin has reduced by half.

10 Leave the evaporating basin to cool. Once cool, move the evaporating basin to a warm place where it will not be disturbed (i.e a window-sill) and observe over the next few days. Blue copper sulfate crystals should form.

The Beatlemania

The Beatles
Hey Jude

Hey Jude is a song by the English rock band the Beatles that was released as a single in August 1968, It had been written by Paul McCartney.

The Writers of the song got a lot of love for releasing this song they have gotten even more love over the years when they were creating music

The music is really different back cause the music didn't express itself as The Beatles and nowadays In the 1940's it was dull and boring but now their is meaning in the songs that we produce.

Here is a picture & video of when The Beatles came to NZ Wellington!

Write an Narrative Story!

Write an Narrative Story! / Your Own..

A burning inferno, a raging storm of heat claimed the house as it's territory, as it's home. The man stood their tears flowing down his face knowing he couldn't save them.

She sat their waiting for it to come, waiting for something bad to happen something to jump at her, but all she got was a text.
The weight of her phone surprised her even though she has had it for year. But what shocked her was the text itself saying"See you soon".

The Long grass and the mist made it feel like a horror film, it felt like the final scene. Where the Antagonist was about to go away forever,
But the two girls didn't think so, they thought it might've just began. When their light went out

She picked up the cold peas from the frozen vegetable section, she felt tremble away the ice between the peas, she also felt a sudden sense of something happening.
She felt someone staring, but it went away.
Then she felt a cold, leather glove on her shoulder.

Everybody was stressed or nervous, studying was boring for most people, you could say that when people say they want to become a teacher they always replied with
"Wait you want to go back to school?"
Some will say yeah but most will say no, except for this one.
It's in the house, in the kitchen downstairs, in the bedroom, in my closet or under my bed, I had dreams where it wore it's mask, it had a knife and a drawn smile written in it's blood.

Show Not Tell!

Show Not Tell!

So in this week we are learning about *SHOW NOT TELL* so we have to describe and put more detail into the sentence that is basic...

The Buildings Are Tall...

The buildings are disguising up in the clouds with all the other buildings sitting up high.

Sarah Was Really Upset...

She was face down lying on her bed with emotion flowing through her mind while thinking about what has happened in the past with her friends and family

She Was So Happy To See Him...

She ran to him with excitement, joy & thrill whilst Adrenalin rushing through her body, like when you see a family member for the first time in a while.

The Lake Was Beautiful...

The reflection of the water made it feel like I was in a dream, falling slowly into the water.
